RUSSEL BRAND WITH JEREMY PAXMAN - ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT - WATCH IT HERE

Citizens across the globe are feeling the blade of austerity measures and corporate greed as they lose their jobs and their wages are reduced,  pensions are being stolen while bankers still take billions in bonuses and seem to say ' fuck you' to everyone.

Families worldwide are under increasing pressure as social services such as education, care for the elderly and health care are being eroded to a point of useless.

We face an age of economic transformation, where the poor are becoming poorer and the rich are becoming richer and our governments then give huge tax breaks to the wealthy while penalising the poor by reducing their benefits and legal rights.

The middle class is shrinking and under increasing attack.

Governments seem impotent - or at worst, in league with the banks and corporate power who are raping society withgout a single care for their fellow man;-   for these people seem to have completely forgotten their humanity.

It is not about people any more, it is all about oil, corporate / banking greed and power. It is time for people to wake up and ' smell the roses'  and take an interest in what is going on, how they are being abused by the 'powers that be' before all our rights have been so eroded it will be too late.

The Orwellian Age  is becoming a reality, faster than many realise and if you want your every move monitored and watched and digested and planned - then do nothing and do not complain when you have lost your freedom to do anything.  If you want a life where you make your own decisions, plan and facilitate your own career, relationships and lifestyle without interference from the state, the police, and 'busy bodies' watching your every move, then read, find out what is gping on,  open various links listed below and find out what you can do to make a difference.  The world we leave our children and grandchildren will define who we are and how we lived.

HAMILTON HALL IS AGAINST FRACKING

Had a couple of guests stay recently who worked as a geologist with a ' BIG PETROLEUM' company (  hint )  and when I asked them about Fracking they both said much the same thing,   that it was not environmentally a good idea as the concept of high pressure water and chemicals being pumped underground was unknown and the damage these chemicals were / would / could do to the water table, the environment was dangerous and unknown and could cause earth quakes And is very dangerous to human and animal health.

This coming from professionals who work in the field  , travelling the world working in the oil and gas industry for over 50 years between them.

Interesting that two very seperate geologists both said much the same thing.

The Truth About Fracking -

8 Fracking Myths Debunked

Zion Lights & Maddy Harland |  Wednesday, 20th February 2013

With the spectre of Fracking becoming a more widespread practice

n the industrialised world, it is crucial to uncover the myths that surround it and give you the facts

Fracking is the slang term for hydraulic fracturing. It is the process of breaking apart (fracturing) dense shale rock in order to release the hydrocarbons (like gas and oil). A gel cocktail comprised of water, sand and chemicals referred to as fracking fluid is injected under high pressure into the rock deep underground, creating new fractures that allow access to deposits previously out of reach.

Interestingly, while Big Oil and Gas like to tell the public and the media that fracking is a safe technology that has been employed for decades, they also tell investors that drilling operations are inherently risky and include leaks, spills, explosions, blowouts, environmental damage, personal injury and death.

Fracking has been used for decades, but the scope and scale of fracking today has no precedent and is causing great alarm by those who are paying attention. Here are eight reasons why fracking is not good for you, your family, community or state.

1. Fracking, even a single well, is very water intensive. A single well can require over 1 million gallons of water. This can deplete underground water tables and dry-up nearby creeks.

2. The waste water from fracking contains high levels of radioactive elements that wastewater treatment plants are not equipped to treat.

3. Dangerous fracking chemicals are kept a secret. Unfortunately, in many states, drilling companies do not have to disclose what chemicals they are using in their fracking fluid as this concoction is considered a “trade secret.”  That was maybe OK when the target was a defined oil reservoir. The problem, however, is that fracking is now practiced closer to aquifers, and thus these chemicals have a higher potential to leach into public ground soils and drinking water. Independent chemists have identified 41 known chemicals in fracking fluid that are considered extremely toxic.

4. The Halliburton Loop Hole. Thanks to sweetheart deals made with then Vice-President Dick Cheney, Big Oil & Gas are exempt from the Safe Drinking Water and the Clean Air Act. Yes, really.

5. Tap water that has been contaminated by toxic fracking chemical cocktails can be lit on fire. Check out the video on the next page showing one resident near a fracking site doing just that.

6. Fracking sites are multiplying like rabbits — although unlike rabbits there is nothing cute and cuddly about a fracking well. Fracking is currently in practice in 28 U.S. states.

7. Fracking can trigger earthquakes. One earthquake in Spain, allegedly triggered by fracking, killed nine people.

8. Fracking for natural gas results in substantial leakage of methane. Not only is methane explosive and creates air pollution, it is 1200 times worse than C02 as a greenhouse gas.

This post was written by Brandon Baker and was originally published on EcoWatch.

The dangers of fracking are no secret, but a study released this week shows the devastating impact the process can have on babies before they even have a chance to live their lives.

The unborn children of pregnant women who live within a 10-mile radius of fracking sites are far more susceptible to congenital heart defects (CHD), according to Birth Outcomes and Maternal Residential Proximity to Natural Gas Development in Rural Colorado, the latest study from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIH) and Environmental Health Perspectives’ (EHP).

The study examined data from 124,842 rural Colorado births from 1996 to 2009.

“We observed an association between density and proximity of natural gas wells within a 10-mile radius of maternal residence and prevalence of CHDs and possibly neural tube defects,” the study reads.

Gary Wockner, director of Clean Water Action’s Colorado program, had a more direct interpretation of the study.

“These findings suggest that fracking causes babies to be deformed—the more we learn about fracking, the worse it gets,” he said. “If you live near a fracking site and you want to have a healthy baby, you should consider moving.”

According to the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, 26 percent of the more than 47,000 oil and gas wells in the state are located within 150 to 1000 feet of a home or other type of building that is intended for human occupancy.

“What’s most shocking is that this extremely dangerous industrial process of fracking has been allowed to occur with virtually no regulation and no study of the public health impacts,” Wockner said. “This study is revealing the terrible truth about fracking—it is a public health hazard, the breadth of which we are only beginning to know about.”

The six researchers listed on the study say they restricted the analysis to rural towns of 50,000 or less in 57 counties—those with less potential for other pollution sources like traffic, congestion and industry. Essentially, more wells in a given area increase the risk of birth defects. The group would not conclude that “a positive association” exists between fracking sites and early chances of a child birth impacted fetal growth, though both were listed among outcomes that occurred.

“Studies in Colorado, Texas, Wyoming and Oklahoma have demonstrated that natural gas development (NGD) results in emission of volatile organic compounds, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, particulate matter and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from either the well itself or from associated drilling processes or related infrastructure, i.e., drilling muds, hydraulic fracturing fluids, tanks containing waste water and liquid hydrocarbons, diesel engines, compressor stations, dehydrators and pipelines,” the study reads.

“Some of these pollutants [e.g., toluene, xylenes, and benzene] are suspected teratogens or mutagens and are known to cross the placenta, raising the possibility of fetal exposure to these and other pollutants resulting from NGD. Currently, there are few studies on the effects of air pollution or NGD on birth outcomes.”

Other findings and birth defects include:

  • Endocardial cushion defect
  • Pulmonary valve atresia and stenosis
  • “Births to mothers in the most exposed tertile (> 125 wells/mile) had a 30 percent greater prevalence of CHDs than those with no wells in a 10-mile radius.”

Wockner said a citizens’ revolt against fracking is ongoing near Denver, with cities 0f more than 400,000 people voting to effectively ban fracking. He believes these results will change that.

“The results of this study will continue to escalate that revolt, and rightly so,” he said. “Fracking is a dangerous industrial process that uses cancer-causing chemicals—it has absolutely no place near communities where families live, work and play.”
