this is Hugh Jackman - Wolvarine - X Men movies - Australian hunk... and PHWOAR ....
We are a COMMUNITY HOTEL and the star system offered by the Council's Tourist Board and the AA / RAC do not quite know where to bracket this kind of venue - what kind of star rating to give, as we do not fall within one of the little labelled boxes they like to slot you into - and so I simply do not bother.
It is the same on Trip Advisor who refuse to list us under 'BOURNEMOUTH HOTELS' - instead they put us under 'SPECIALITY LODGINGS' which is a complete waste of time for us.
The Tourist Board would insist we have TV's in all the bedrooms, a kettle with tea and coffee available also in the bedrooms and these are things I absolutely DO NOT WANT and took these things out of the rooms when I first came here. As nice as a hotel bedroom is, with its bathroom, it's TV and refreshments, maybe even a mini bar - air conditioning / heating and all the luxuries - you are still in a hotel room shut away on your own and with no contact with anyone else and you might as well be in a luxury prison.
This is perfect if you want privacy - solitude - not to really mix with anyone else.

WITH 3 AND 4 STARS AS MANY ARE SIMPLY DREADFUL
I have done - and continue to do - my research, and I have checked out hundreds of other gay and straight venues through numerous web sites, through watching 'The Hotel Inspector' and ' 4 In A Bed' on TV and so often the bedrooms are tacky with dreadful decor, old bedding, mixed designs that simply had no thought offered and dead boring atmosphere. Dreary lounges and depressing dining rooms. The bigger hotels have 'packaged rooms' where everything is the same throughout the hotel and you will find the same almost globally.
I am often plainly shocked at the lack of common sense and the complete lack of thought, not just in the design and decor, but atmosphere and the vibe of the place. At Hamilton Hall, as soon as you enter, you feel at home:- you can feel the relaxed and friendliness ooze through you and you know instantly you have made the right choice.
Many of the smaller hotel - guest houses with 3 and 4 stars - do not have all the fire, health and safety equipment as the venue is too small and does not require it, yet they charge the same - if not more - while putting you at risk. To be a venue with all the legal requirements costs a fortune annually.
HOW MANY HOTELS GUARANTEE THEIR VENUE AGAINST YOU FINDING SOMETHING ELSE COMPERABLE AND BETTER WITHIN 60 DAYS OF YOUR STAY OR TWICE YOUR MONEY BACK ?
Local Tourist Board star rating is only available to those venues who pay the local tourist board a small fortune to be 'on their books' but for which you get almost nothing in return. As a MEN ONLY VENUE there is no business to be offered by the local tourist board and 99% of our custom comes through this web site. I spend my money on web sites and promotional advertising I know is going to work for us - and the local tourist board is not one of them.
DO NOT TRUST THE STAR RATING SYSTEM
I stayed recently ( April 2011 ) in an AA 3 Star hotel in Arrundell and it was poor - decor - food - bedding - facilities and even the wifi was £10 a night extra. Breakfast - which was worse than poor - was £13.95 for the Full English and the entire venue was solely reliant on its location for business, otherwise I doubt it was worth 1 Star. Staff and service was good, but otherwise I was quite shocked at the poor quality of the entire venue.
TRIP ADVISOR is no different - with thousands of business owners complaining about bogus reports left about their venue and how Trip Advisor are rude obnoxious and condescending when you try and contact them - that is - if you can figure out through their web site exactly HOW to contact them.
I have had several occasions to complaoin about how they treat those of us who pay handsomely for their service yet they patronise and condescend and I wonder why I bother with them.
So from 2013 onwards I have stopped being a member.
Do not always believe the reports on such sites, as many bitter and twisted people leave reports on venues they have never even visited and I have had a few about us - and eventuallty Trip Advisor will remove after I complain, but there are no checks made on those leaving bogus reports and Trip Advisor is being sued by thousands because of this.
We are very well placed onm trip ASdvisor and have superb reviews, but I refuse to give them a penny more of my money and have stopped paying for their useless service.
When I was 16 I met my first lover who was 42 at the time and we moved to Guernsey and had a large hotel with 17 bedrooms, a bar, a restaurant and even a very popular and busy tea room, and from a first class dump - we built this 400 year old farmhouse up into a thriving hotel with 4 poster beds - the works. It was a very busy venue and we were proud of what we had achieved.
After 4 years we sold the venue to a man and his wife and her brother - all in their lmid 40's - and for the first 3 weeks I stayed on - just as the chef - so they could get use to their new business without too much strain.
On the first night - they came to the kitchen door and said they were leaving - and after I asked were they were going, they said home for dinner. I pointed out that I was cooking them dinner along with the 50 guests, and they said they didn't want it and that they would be back after breakfast in the morning.
I was agasp and explained that this was now their business and what on God's Earth were they thinking. There was the bar to tend before and after dinner and all the wine to sort out for guests during dinner;- that they needed to be here to chat and share a laugh with ther guests and offer a personal and intimate touch - and they just asked if one of the waitresses could do that... to which I did point out that
1) It was not the waitresses job.
2) The waitress did not have the keys to the wine cellar or to open / close the bar and were they going to trust a complete stranger ( the waitresses ) behind their bar with their bar takings ?
3) It was now their job as the new owners to get down to work and earn their living - to which they responded -
' BUT A PLACE LIKE THIS RUNS ITSELF SURELY ?'
To which I responded that in fact it did not, - that it took 15 - 18 hours hard work a day and even with enough staff on duty - the owners still had an enormous amount of work involved and that if this is what they thought was going to be the case, they had better re evaluate their thoughts on running a hotel or they would go bust very quickly.
At the end of my 3 weeks I left and within 3 months the hotel did in fact close and the people went bankrupt - IN 3 MONTHS.
They didn't have a clue.,
Not the faintest clue.
Absolute zero idea.
We had left them with a full reservations diary of customers booked in for the summer and various contracts with coach companies for the cream teas every afternoon, and within days of me leaving, they closed the cream teas ( of which we were doing around 80 - 100 every single day ) and even before the season finnished, the three of them were sharing a communal nervous breakdown and suffering from exhaustion - and it was so disheartening to us, who had worked so hard in building up such a good and thriving business to have these three fuck wiots destroy it all so fast.
