short break and if and where we can, we offer this openly

Terrence
Higgins Trust ignored our offers of free vacations for HIV+
men worth £1,200 - Is this the sort of service you guys have
had to put up with ?
We
contacted the THT twice recently and offered some free week long
vacations for guys with HIV who they felt needed a free week away with
meals etc. Four different week long periods between
February - September 2010 were offered with meals and lovely
accommodation and even meet them at the station, and we
heard nothing in answer. Is this usual
for an organization such as the THT ? Free weeks by the
seaside - worth more than £300 per person is offered and no
can be bothered to even respond ? Seems rather rude,
unprofessional and unhelpful towards the very people they
are suppose to be helping. Can
anyone help me with this ? In all, I offered more than
£1,200 of free vacations and not even an e mail saying no
thanks.
Is this the
kind of service that you guys have experienced through the
THT - Has it always been this bad ? Am I just unlucky
or is some staff member just not doing their job and needs
the sack ?
Is there some
other organization I should be approaching ? One who
appreciates a kind offer like this.

What is
Peripheral Neuropathy?
This is a term given to a
collection of events as a result of nerve damage to the
extremities, in this case, your toes. The word
Peripheral just means "to the outside, or the
perimeter". When the nerves get damaged, they
cease to function in a normal fashion. Numbness in your
toes is usually nerve damage.
Peripheral Neuropathy in the
feet can be very serious, for without adequate
circulation and sensitivity to your toes, the tissues
can die. In severe cases, the cells can die, and
Gangrene can be the result.
- Numbness in toes -
Toes start to tingle - Tingling toes will
spread up into the feet
- Feeling like you're
already wearing socks when you know you're not
- Feet may feel like
they're burning and/or freezing
- Toes and feet may
throb, especially at night
- Erratic shooting
nerve pain - Feet and toes may sweat -
Skin will be sensitive to touch
- In some cases, a loss
of sensitivity on the bottoms of your feet
- Loss of balance and
coordination - Difficulty walking and
standing

We hear a lot from people
that there is nothing to do and that no-one offers anything out
of the ordinary and yet here we are - trying our best to bring
an exciting array of events to enlighten, thrill, shock and
amuse and then what do we hear - 'Oh I can't make that weekend -
I have to wash my hair' - or some other lame excuse - and I
despair - I really so. We work so hard and
listen to what you ask and then you do not support the events
you have asked for and then we - kinda - get pissed off.
Some local guys asked for day workshops as they did not want to
stay overnight for the whole weekend and this was offered,
and - huh - you guessed it - not once have we had a local
attend.
I have
always said - 'If you don't use it - you'll loose it' and
I refuse to keep fighting hard to make this venue work if you do
not support the events we offer. The choice is yours. The
gay scene is shrinking as more and more venues turn 'gay
friendly' and welcome every straight person with a £ in
their hand, and our community will be so watered down, our
cultural history lost, and eventually you will wonder how or why
this happened... The choice is yours.
