Emergency: Save this Polish LGBT+ centre

February 21, 2020

When I was 15 years old, I felt lost and lonely. I knew something was going on, but there was nobody in the small Polish mining town I grew up in who I could talk to about my feelings. It took me almost a decade to come to terms with the fact that I'm gay.

Today, I'm happy and proud to be out – but there are hundreds of 15-year-old people in Poland who feel just as lonely. What's worse, many are now scared to live in a country in which more than 80 cities have declared themselves "LGBT-free zones."

That's why our organisation, Znaki Równości, opened DOM EQ – a unique safe space in Kraków, Poland's second-largest city, dedicated to LGBT+ people, where we offer community building, free legal aid, and psychological support.

More than 3,000 people have visited our workshops, support groups, and events since we opened last June. We want to be there for many, many more. But we're running out of funds quickly, and we might be forced to close as soon as April this year.

Can you donate to help us keep our doors open during this crisis?

You have shown your solidarity for Polish LGBT+ people, by teaming up with Polish activists and supporting a big campaign after the attacks on our LGBT+ community last year.

But we need to do more, to help LGBT+ Poles get through this crisis. At DOM EQ, we've created a space where gay and lesbian youth, parents of LGBT+ children, trans people, allies, and many others come together and support each other. Our volunteers help run workshops, support groups, movie nights, and a ton of other activities. It sounds simple, but in this atmosphere of hate and violence, it is a precious resource to give our community hope and safety.

15-year-old me would have loved to have access to such a wonderful place.

If enough All Out members donate, we'll be able to pay our rent and continue this life-changing work. Can you help?

Thank you for your support.
