alcohol is directly linked to breast cancer?

Did you know that alcohol is directly linked to the second most common cancer, breast cancer?

In fact, alcohol causes seven types of cancer. In the UK, around 4% of new cancer cases every year are linked to alcohol consumption. But only a quarter of Brits know that alcohol plays a role in breast cancer. As this week is Breast Cancer Prevention Week, we want to raise awareness of the link between alcohol and breast cancer. Research has found that the alcohol industry keeps consumers in the dark about the alcohol-related risk of cancer, particularly about breast and colorectal cancer. We believe everyone has the right to know so that they can make informed choices about their health.

You can read more about alcohol and breast cancer in our guest blog from Breast Cancer UK. But there is good news too! Ireland has just become the first country in the world that will require alcohol labels to display a cancer risk warnings. The UK Government promised to launch a consultation on alcohol labelling over two years ago — we have just asked MPs to remind them of this commitment. We’d love it if you could ask your local MP to do the same.

Best wishes,

Anu
