Franklin Graham Loses It After Pope Francis Backs Same-Sex Civil Unions Because Then Jesus Died ‘For Nothing’
Franklin Graham was furious after Pope Francis “legally” called for civil union laws to protect same-sex couples.
According to the Catholic News Agency, the pontiff veered away from traditional Catholic teachings with comments supporting LGBTQ people in a new documentary called Francesco – which premiered at the Rome Film Festival on Wednesday.
In a segment of the documentary that reflected on pastoral care for those who identify as LGBT, the Pope said of homosexuals:
“They’re children of God and have a right to a family. Nobody should be thrown out, or be made miserable because of it.”
He added:
“What we have to create is a civil union law. That way they are legally covered.”
“I stood up for that.”
But Graham—who is the son of late Rev. Billy Graham—strongly disagreed.
In a Facebook post, the conservative preacher told his over nine million followers the Pope’s comments were “unthinkable in light of the Word of God
He continued, in part:
“For Pope Francis to attempt to normalize homosexuality is to say that Holy Scriptures are false, that our sins really don’t matter, and that we can continue living in them.”
“If that were true, then Jesus Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection wouldn’t have been needed. The cross would have been for nothing.”
Graham referenced the Old Testament to reiterate that “a male husband and a female wife, then their children” is how God defined family.

Graham concluded his post by insinuating that hell will be waiting for the “unrepentant.”
“I want everyone to know the truth and to find the peace that comes only from fully surrendering our lives to Him and His commands.”
“The consequence of an unrepentant, unbelieving heart is also clear in the Word of God—eternal death.”
“Unless we repent and receive His offer of forgiveness, surrendering our lives to Him, we will spend eternity as part of a different family when we leave this earth—the family of the condemned.”
