Just when you thought Dolly Parton couldn’t be any more sainted, her death at the age of 80 last week surfaced a story that makes it so. One of the most important staffers among Parton’s close circle of supporters was a transgender man.

Jason Pirro met Parton in the 1980s when he found himself chauffeuring the singer on a trip to Los Angeles. His clients already included Farah Fawcett, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, and Bewitched’s Elizabeth Montgomery.

The driver, who at 300 pounds cut a memorable figure in his chauffeur’s tuxedo uniform, would work with Parton for over 30 years in that role and others, and become someone the singer described as her “good friend.”

Grindr to pay millions over allegations it shared private data of thousands of UK users

The company still denies liability and disputes the allegations.

Grindr has reached a settlement in a UK lawsuit filed in 2024 accusing the dating app of breaking UK privacy laws. It will pay plaintiffs £26 million (~$35 million) over allegations that Grindr shared app users’ sensitive information – including their ethnicity, sexual orientation, and in some cases, their HIV status – with third parties that sold it to advertisers. 670 people had signed on to the claim, but lawyers representing Grindr users said at the time that “thousands” more had already expressed interest in joining the lawsuit. Those were not idle words. At the time of the settlement, more than 11,000 claimants had signed on.Grindr has now agreed to pay out £13 million (~$17.6 million) by December 31st, with another £13 million due by March 31, 2027.

Lifeboats carrying around 140 migrants rescued in the English Channel were denied permission to enter Southampton port. RNLI lifeboats from Bembridge and Yarmouth were involved in the operation after the group was rescued from a small boat heading towards the Hampshire coast on Sunday.

The lifeboats eventually brought those rescued ashore at Eastney in Portsmouth, where they were met by hundreds of people protesting their arrival in scenes the government has called "thuggish".

Trump is spending the holiday weekend dreaming up his next demand to relabel America’s geography. He posted a map on Truth Social Sunday afternoon of New Mexico, but the word Mexico was crossed out and replaced with America.

Relabeling the southwestern state on the U.S.-Mexico border as New America is reminiscent of an executive order he signed early in his second term, in which he changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

A federal judge appointed by President Donald Trump told residents of Jackson, Mississippi on Friday they have no right to water untainted by lead, according to a new report.
