The Christmas truce football match – a picture of a Greek kickabout is misappropriated yearly.
Rising to head a ball in joyous abandon, British soldiers enjoy a game of football. This picture has become famous as it yearly accompanies articles about the heavily mythologised Christmas truce football match.

The Christmas truce took place on December 25 1914. At certain points along the line in France and Flanders, British and German soldiers met between their trenches, shaking hands, sharing stories and posing for photographs. There were darker moments too, such as soldiers burying comrades who had been killed in the weeks before. With plenty of firsthand testimony, there is no doubt that the truce took place.

The whole story of this football match is universally known although it does appear it may be mixing several stories together - if it even happened at all. But what is the story telling us. What are we to take form it.
THAT WE ARE ALL THE SAME.
THAT WE ARE ALL AS WORTHY.
THAT NO ONE IS AN ENEMY OF ANOTHER.
It shows us exactly how we are used as fodder in a minefield of political bullying where those in power want more ;- more power - more territory - more wealth - just more and are determined to dominate others to get what they want, and it may be a single person bullying another single person or it may be a country and a political or religious ideology that wants to dominate and bully its neighbour's or even - the world - and spread its message far and wide as a form of brain washing. Rarely is it done for the betterment of the people, but for the betterment of a few - or an ideology or religious belief that 95% do not want and the 5% are murderously determined to share it. Then you have countries like Russia, America and China. All saber rattling at the moment and all wanting to be TOP DOG especially as we can all see that the USA is faltering, loosing its grip and turning in on itself and will implode in civil war the way it is going and then, all hell will break loose as Russia and China sweep in to clear up the global mess.
This will happen.
This is what is to come.
We have been the generation that has not seen a war. This is probably the longest period in centuries that we in the west - well the UK - has not see a war. Sure - there are dozens of wars going on around the planet and many have been horrendous in loss of human life and destroyed lives, but nothing hit us here in the UK and none of us have ever been away to war unless we chose to be in the armed forces, but that could change the way the big boys are saber rattling and the future, is unknown. I am glad not to be in my teens anymore. John Bellamy
