YMCA IS NOT A GAY ANTHUM - APPARANTLY.

After more than 50 years of this song being known and appreciated and held with much affection by the gay scene as a GAY ANTHUM - probably by tens of millions of people, as let's face it, even my Mother assumed it was gay and giggled at the naughtyness of its apparrant message - as the words hardly enshrine heterosexuality;- and in late 2024, Victor Willis, a founding member of the Village People, publicly stated that the song "Y.M.C.A." is not a gay anthem.
Maybe it was never intended as such and the gay scene has mis used it - mis understood everything - EVERYTHING - about it FOR MORE THAN 50 YEARS - and only now because of Trump are we being called out for labeling it as such.
He even threatened legal action against media outlets that referred to the song as such, claiming it was a misinterpretation based on the song's lyrics, the band's image, and the association with gay culture. Willis maintained that the song is not about illicit activity at the YMCA and that the lyrics don't suggest that when actually, that's exactly what the lyric DOES seem to point at, exactly that.

Maybe I am wrong. Maybe tens of millions have got it also wrong for the last 50 years. If that is the case, then the writer did a pretty shit job if just about everyone mistook his whole meaning.
So for more than 50 years he has accepted all monies, royalties etc. from a song that took him 50 years to correct the misrepresentation of by the words, the group who sang it and everything about it SCREAMS GAY - and ONLY DID SO AFTER TRUMP CHOSE TO USE IT AT A RALLY.
Willis presumably is right, as he wrote it after all and should know what he meant it to mean;- it just seems odd that it took him half a century - 50 years - 600 months - 2,600 weeks and more than 18,000 days, - to actually make that announcement public. He must have known what was being said about his song.
Because of money, see how quickly the worm turns.
See what you think of the words below and tell me how they sound to you. .....

Young man, there's no need to feel down
I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground
I said, young man, 'cause your in a new town
There's no need to be unhappy
Young man, there's a place you can go
I said, young man, when you're short on your dough
You can stay there, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time.

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.

Young Man, I was once in your shoes,
I said, I was down and out with the blues
I felt, no man cared if I were alive
I felt the whole world was so jive
That's when someone came up to me and said
Young man take a walk up the street
There's a place there called the Y.M.C.A.
They can start you back on your way.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
