Sandbanks residents claim victory in battle for 'private beach' that was fenced off by mansion owner

Residents of one of Britain's wealthiest neighbourhoods are claiming victory after a lawyer has argued they should have access to an exclusive beachfront that was controversially fenced off.
Last summer, a 40ft timber barrier appeared at one end of what has always been regarded as a public beach on Sandbanks, Poole, Dorset. The 'eyesore' structure was accompanied by officious signage stating 'private beach' and 'trespassers will be prosecuted' along with a security camera with motion sensors.
The so-called 'land grab' by millionaire insurance tycoon Ian Penfold, 59, and his wife, Camila, along Sandbanks' northern shore put a stop to more than 80 years of public access to the beach there.
