Each week i will bring you some outrageously stupid things going on around Trump and the USA that just makes your hair stand on end... Do not say 'well that's thouands of miles away'- and do not assume it does not affect us here in the UK, because it does and it will, and most of it, sadly, bad.

Why are Europeans outraged that they were called "pathetic free-loaders" by US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in Trump's top national security officials' top-secret group chat?

Since the end of WW2 the USA has had the use of airbases in the UK and Europe for free in order to prevent war on its own territory. It doesn't matter if they allow Europe to be destroyed so long as their land is untouched.

The only country to invoke Article 5 of the NATO Treaty is the USA.

The UK was part of the nations that went in under the UN banner to save the USA in Korea

The UK also allied with the USA in Desert Shield and Desert Storm

In fact since the US Mexican war the USA hasn’t won a single war without Europe.

If any country is freeloading - it most certainly is the USA.

Do British people know that the US is the oldest surviving democracy? Even the first French republic (1792-1804) was run by unelected dictators like Robespierre and Napoleon.

( Oh dear, the stupid Americans are at it again, assuming they were first at everything...)

Do Americans know that they were patriotically brainwashed in school to believe in oversimplified “history”, to the point of it having very little to do with actual reality? It’s just one carefully crafted patriotic feelgood-fest. A cartoon, airbrushed for the purpose of indoctrinating kids and teens.

Consisting of one after another “glorious victory for our young aspiring democracy, under God”. Manifest destiny and all that. My favourite one is how brave Americans struggled to “overcome” slavery, when they were at the time the very last “civilised” nation in the world to have practised it.

Storybook history. The shame is that many current American adults don’t get it, or don’t want to.

Your claim that the US is the “oldest surviving democracy”, all of 250 years young, is fatuous in the extreme. The UK beat you to the punch centuries before that.

But you might counter with “the UK has a monarch”. Yeah, one without any real power since the late 1600s. Furthermore, your president has, and always has had since 1776, far more sweeping powers than the UK Prime Minister, let alone the monarch. So who’s more democratic now?

Your King Donald said openly on the first day after his recent crowning — sorry, inauguration — when he graced the world with the first of his idiotic edicts, that he gets to be dictator but just for one day. He said that. Look it up.

It is clear to the entire civilised world that America is now the one with the democracy problem.

I fear that I have now lost most of the American readership, because after two sentences they tend to keel over and fall asleep out of sheer boredom. Thinking for 30 seconds tends to have that effect on them.

But only on some of them. I feel sorry for the intelligent American minority, people like us. They have a huge hill to climb to restore their country to the noble ideals of Thomas Jefferson et al. Trouble is, they willl NEVER be able to revert things back to how they were as - quite simply - the world does not trust America and more. If it ever did ?
