Mars crosses the gandanta juncture between watery Pisces and fiery Aries. This is a volatile place for the planet of war, moving through a ‘void’ in the zodiac, where one Sun sign ends, and another begins, with no supporting lunar division.
Expect some sense of being at a threshold, and ready yourself for the fight.
As Mars gets settled into Aries, Mercury and Venus exchange signs once they move into Taurus and Gemini by May 14. This places all three planets in powerful positions for the next few weeks, and is the strongest transit period in 2026.
You find your energy increases, and practical elements work well for you, so that we’re likely feeling strong, inspired, clear, and focused on doing what you want, and are happy to share the experience with others.
Mars may be a selfish part of you that wants what it wants, but Mercury and Venus are willing to compromise.
Now, don’t expect Mars in Aries to be peaceful, all the same. I do think this is going to be violent on the world stage. Mars, the planet of war, moves through Aries, the sign of war, and it doesn’t take a genius to work out the results. However, when Mars is strong in its own sign, you are more likely to tap into your ninja warrior mode and achieve a great deal.
Let’s not fool ourselves, though. Mars in Aries is much like The Fool in the Tarot, eagerly moving forward, without much forethought.
It may be time to jump, but you could do with a little look at what you’re jumping into. That said, this is a new impetus, which would be a shame to waste on only thinking. Mars in Aries demands action. You learn from your actions and your mistakes. And hopefully, you don’t make the same ones over and over again. You could also learn from others’ mistakes before doing anything.
Those with Aries or Scorpio rising or Moon will no doubt benefit from Mars’ transit in Aries. However, as always, these Mars-ruled signs need to be aware of the pitfalls of having Mars also ruling challenging houses (8th for Aries, 6th for Scorpio). Yet this is exactly what makes these signs tick. In fact, if Aries or Scorpio aren’t challenged, there’s a problem. When the going gets tough, Aries and Scorpio get going.
This is fundamentally the benefit and the downfall of Mars. If you can do the necessary because of the challenge you’re facing, you’re more likely to improve your life. If, however, you overdo it, you may end up worse than when you began. As I always say, Mars doesn’t know when to quit.
Now that it’s moving through its home sign, having had no choice but to restrain itself in Pisces, you’re more likely to act impulsively, regardless of the consequences, especially for its transit through the first lunar division of Aries, i.e., Aśvinī. Mars transits Aśvinī between May 10 and May 29.
This period is likely to be quite impulsive and even reckless, until it makes it to Bharaṇī, where the horse (Aśvinī) is bridled, and you can discipline yourself once again.
