Experience counts above academic qualifications

“Don’t move! The money belongs to the State — your lives belong to you.”

Everyone in the bank lay down quietly. This is called “Changing the way of thinking” — shifting the traditional mindset.

When a woman lay provocatively on a table, the thief shouted:“Please be civilized! This is a robbery, not a rape!”

This is called “Being Professional.” Focus only on what you are trained to do!

When the robbers returned home, the younger thief (who had an MBA) said to the older thief (who had only finished sixth grade):“Big brother, let’s count how much we got.”

The older thief replied:“You’re so stupid! There’s too much money — it’ll take forever to count. Tonight, the TV news will tell us how much we stole.”

This is called “Experience.” Nowadays, experience is more valuable than academic qualifications!

After the robbers left, the bank manager told the supervisor to call the police quickly. But the supervisor said:“Wait! Let’s take $10 million from the bank for ourselves and add it to the $70 million we’ve already embezzled.”

This is called “Going with the flow.” Turning a disadvantageous situation into an advantage!

The supervisor then said:“It would be great if there was a robbery every month.”

This is called “Killing boredom.” Personal happiness is more important than work.

The next day, the news reported that $100 million had been stolen from the bank. The robbers counted and counted but only found $20 million. Furious, they complained:“We risked our lives and only got $20 million. The bank manager took $80 million in an instant! Looks like it’s better to be educated than to be a thief.”

This is called “Knowledge is as valuable as gold.”

Meanwhile, the bank manager smiled, relieved that his stock market losses were now covered by the robbery.

This is called “Seizing the opportunity.” Dare to take risks!

So… who are the real thieves?

After 40 years running a sizeable charity, I retired and went to work at John Lewis part time. After 3 months my Line Manager called me in for an assesment, which all went perfectly. However, I chose to 'work assess,' my Line Manager in return, which he was NOT expecting and my report found him VERY VERY WANTING in his experience, knowledge and professionalism as he clearly didn't have a clue. Oh he had a University Degree in Business Management and was employed straight out of Uni - but he was a gormless twit - and he may have had a degree but he had absolutely no common sense, no people skills, no staff handling skills, no idea about Customer Service and by the time I finnished my assesment of him, he was left open mouthed and asking what he could do in this or that situation to help the workload and staff.

Now - It's not my job to teach my Line Manager his job, but when these companies employ these ' I have a degree' idiots - and put them in positions ABOVE those with decades of experience, WHO CARIES WHO HERE ??? J.M.

I worked at my local cathedral for over 30 years as a volunteer - with a group of men and women all who had volunteered there for decades and we worked well together and church hierarchy knew us all and valued what we did. Then the church employed a new women to manage us all, and she was appalling. She may have had a degree but she was rude and obnoxious to us all - the very volunteers who had done so much for so long, until many left - and management insisted they knew best.

Eventually every single long term volunteer quit ( some 35 people ) and I was the last to go and I did NOT go quietly. I accused management of deliberately bringing in a distructive force to get rid of us volunteers and that the church would suffer as a consequences.

Turns out more employed staff were irritated at this womens attitude and by the time the arrogant hierarchy of the church took the wool out of ther ears and listened and paid attention - some 18 months too late, EVERY volunteer had left and they were left struggling BADLY to maintan the workload needing to be done and this women was raked over the coals as to why there were no staff, even though management knew exactly what the problem was as we had all complained about her and to be told ' She has a degree and knows what she is doing' when CLEARLY - SHE KNEW FUCK ALL. To dumbest part of this - they kept her on - she is still there, it meant employing - and paying - for staff to fill in the gap until they could find more volunteers;- while as long as that women - the one with a university degree is in charge, no one will stay and put up with her manner and it jUst goes to show John, having a University Degree means absolutely nothing and -

I would NOT emply someone with a degree over someone else who had EXPERIENCE....S.T.

Every summer I use to take on students from the Horticultural Society so these students can learn some ' hands on experience.' and while these lads are taking a degree, they are absolutely useless - they simply cannot even cope with guiding a self propelling lawn mower ( oh it's too hard...) and they are still in their late teens some of them, I complained year on year to the society that these lads were always - ALWAYS USELESS. I point out that if they continue in this manner, what is the use of teaching them anything when ever so much as raking up leaves is too hard for these mummies boys who want a degree but CLEARLY don't have the faintest clue about what real work is all about. No use being a brilliant garden designer if you dont know how to get your hands dirty and DO THE WORK. I refused the Society years ago as it was just a complete waste of my time and after 10 years - yes I gave them ten years and every single year was the same - USELESS MUMMIES BOYS. D.B.
