homosexuality & the bible

Sometimes - I find myself discussing at length the Christian Bible with people who assume it says one thing but in fact says something very different as - to be honest - most people haven't the foggiest clue what the Bible says - or not -as most have never actually read the Bible or have the faintest clue about its origins etc.

Massively edited many times from various languages into Latin and then later into English - Massively misinterpreted and blatanty changed to favour a male God and women are in 3rd place - and where so much has been disfigured over the years by bad editing by fucked up sexually frustrated monks pouring all the resentment and bitterness into their work and we have to live with the consequences if we are to believe.

Personally - The Bible IS NOT WORTHY OF SERIOUS EXAMINATION OR STUDY AS IT HAS BEEN SO MESSED WITH OVER THE MILLENNIUM AND IS SO INNACCURATE IT BEGGARS BELIEF.

NATURALLY - to any devout Christian, this is blasphemy but you cannot doubt truth and historial records that show us clearly how and when writings were edited.

LOVE LOST IN TRANSLATION

Homosexuality and the Bible

By Renato Lings

The Bible does not use modern terms like "gay" or "orientation," but it includes specific stories and passages that mention same-sex relationships and acts. Opinions on these texts are mixed: some readers and scholars view them as strict rules against any same-sex behavior, while others see them as critiques of specific ancient practices like abuse, power imbalance, or temple prostitution rather than loving modern commitments.

  • Specific Passages and Stories

  • Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13: These verses in the Old Testament state that a man should not lie with another man as he lies with a woman, calling it an abomination, with traditional views seeing this as a permanent moral law and progressive views placing it in the context of ancient holiness codes or anti-idolatry rules.

  • Genesis 19 (Sodom and Gomorrah): This narrative describes a hostile crowd demanding to sexually assault visiting male angels. Traditional interpretations link this to same-sex acts (giving us the word "sodomy"), whereas many modern scholars and prophets emphasize the primary sins as severe inhospitality, violence, and social injustice.

  • Romans 1:26–27: The Apostle Paul writes that both women and men exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones, which traditional interpreters read as a blanket condemnation of same-sex intercourse, while others argue it addresses pagan idolatrous excesses or non-natural personal extremes.

  • 1 Corinthians 6:9–10 and 1 Timothy 1:10: These New Testament lists include Greek terms (such as arsenokoitai) often translated as men who practice homosexuality or sexual perversion, though translators and historians debate the exact economic or social meaning of the original words.

    Examples of Close Relationships

David and Jonathan: Found in the Book of Samuel, King David and Prince Jonathan shared a deep emotional bond, with David stating that Jonathan's love was "wonderful, more wonderful than that of women". Some modern readers view this as a romantic or homoerotic partnership, while others view it as a profound platonic friendship of military brotherhood.

  • Ruth and Naomi: In the Book of Ruth, Ruth makes a famous pledge of lifelong loyalty to her mother-in-law Naomi ("Where you go I will go"). While generally read as family devotion and loyalty, some feminist and queer theologians interpret the text through a lens of deep commitment.

  • "Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay."

  • "Your people will be my people..."

  • "and your God my God."

  • "Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried"

You make, and take, from the news that which you wish to see and hear. You observe what you want and comment of things that affect you personally. If you don't like something, do not read it and move on but do not shy away from what IS going on in the world of which - you are a part. World news is so easy to find these days and differing opinions not hard to find. Having an opinion is vital and being a ' don't care' person helps no one. So open your mind - open your heart - open your awareness and ALWAYS be open to new ideas.
