Fawlty Towers legend leaves huge fortune following tragic death

Fawlty Towers icon Prunella Scales has left a whopping £3.1million in her will after dying from vascular dementia in October 2025. The actress, who played Sybil Fawlty opposite John Cleese in the classic BBC sitcom, was married to fellow actor Timothy West until his own death in November 2024.
According to records obtained by the Daily Mail, Prunella left the bulk of her estate in trust for her remaining family. She left assets worth £3,376,585, which was reduced to £3,166,553 after liability payments. Her will, drawn up in October 2020, left various sums to charity.

NHS warning to anyone using electric fans to keep cool this summer

Millions of people will not be alone in using an electric fan to stay cool as the UK bakes under the current intense heat. Recently, the country experienced another scorching day where temperatures in parts of the country climbed back up to the high 30s. It was even declared as the hottest day of the year (for now). The Met Office has confirmed that temperatures reached 38.1°C in Kew Gardens, London, on August 13. This narrowly beats the previous record of 38°C set in Norfolk earlier this year on June 26. Although things are set to cool down, temperatures are expected to hang around the low 20s in parts of the UK.

(beer ) The longest Mike held an actual job was three and a half months before he got into a fist fight with his assistant manager. Mike has three different baby mommas. Mike does odd jobs around the county for spending money. Mike only works for cash because he doesn't trust the government. Mike lives in the house he grew up in. Mike hasn't paid his property taxes in four years.
Trump comes along and tells Mike that he, like Trump, is actually a genius. Those people getting ahead are because they are holding Mike down. Mike could easily be a CEO but woke DEI won't even consider him for the job and give it to some minority. All Mike's problems are because of someone else and if Mike votes for Trump; Trump will hurt all those other people for Mike.

He is now opening up about the massive uptick in homophobic abuse he has seen since taking on his new position, even as LGBTQ+ community members criticize him for his transphobic policies.

Frasers Group acquires majority of upmarket retailer’s sites from the administrators
The owner of Sports Direct has bought Harvey Nichols out of administration after the upmarket department store chain warned it could run out of money if it did not find new funding.
Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group said on Thursday it had bought the chain, which is headquartered at its store in Knightsbridge, for an undisclosed sum on the day it was put into administration. Sources said he had paid about £40m for Harvey Nichols, which has 1,200 employees and 13 stores.

71 men arrested in Senegal for “unnatural acts” as crackdown on homosexuality continues
The country is cracking down on LGBTQ+ people.
The public prosecutor’s office in Senegal confirmed Friday that 71 men were arrested and charged with “unnatural acts,” Africa News reports. Twenty-eight other men were arrested but had their charges dropped.
The announcement comes several months after the Muslim-majority West African nation stiffened penalties for homosexuality in March. The penalty associated with an “unnatural acts” charge is five to ten years in prison.
Church stands by call to execute gay people: “I will not apologize for preaching the Word of God.”

A men’s night sermon said gay people should “blow yourself in the back of the head.”
A church leader in Indianapolis is doubling down on a sermon delivered at the Sure Foundation Baptist Church in the state’s capital city last week that called on gay people to “blow yourself in the back of the head,” among other incendiary statements. Church leader Justin Zhong endorsed the remarks delivered by lay pastor Stephen Falco during a Men’s Preaching Night service on June 29, including his assertion that, “There’s nothing good to be proud about being a f*g. You ought to blow yourself in the head in the back of the head. You’re so disgusting.”
Travelodge staff gave domestic abuser key to his victim's room
A domestic violence victim has told BBC Breakfast how she was attacked in her hotel room after Travelodge reception staff gave a key to her abuser. The woman, whom the BBC is calling Lucy, said she was "failed" by the chain and described it as one of the "most traumatic nights of my life" after the man kicked the door off its hinges. She contacted the BBC after hearing about the sentencing of Kyran Smith, who sexually assaulted a woman in her bed at a Travelodge in Maidenhead in 2022. Speaking about Lucy's case, Travelodge said that while incidents like this were "very rare", customer safety and security was, and remained, a priority with staff undergoing recent training.

Whether you love him or hate him, Donald Trump is undoubtedly unafraid to speak his mind - even if it means getting ridiculed mercilessly by the internet.
From the invention of "covfefe" (does anyone know what that is yet?), to the claim that you "can't be too greedy" (and don't we know it), there's truly no shortage of comedy gold that leaves the president's mouth. It's been a whole year-and-a-half since he took office for the second time. So, naturally, we've rounded up the stupidest things Donald Trump has ever said... subjectively, of course.

Congratulations, Mr. President. You launched a war you apparently couldn’t finish, then made matters even worse by backing away from a peace agreement with Iran. Now Iranian officials are signaling that they have no intention of negotiating seriously with Trump and may simply wait him out.
“Trump will not reach an agreement with us. We will go along with him until his term ends,” said Majid Shakeri, an adviser to Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
Shakeri argued that Iran’s strategy should be neither outright war nor a formal peace deal, but instead a prolonged period of ambiguity and strategic patience.
Iran is reportedly demanding $300 billion in compensation, the release of Iranian financial assets frozen by the United States, and the withdrawal of U.S. forces from the Middle East.
Those conditions would be extraordinarily difficult for Trump to accept. But keeping the Strait of Hormuz closed for years would create an entirely different and potentially enormous problem.
And the situation gets even more alarming.
The Atlantic reports that U.S. stocks of interceptor missiles have reportedly fallen to 20% or less of their previous levels. One defense official described the increasingly difficult choices facing troops, who may have only seconds to decide whether to use a limited interceptor or take the risk of letting an incoming Iranian missile through.
Former Obama and Biden national security official Phil Gordon described the possibility of the United States accepting Iranian control over the Strait as an extraordinary outcome one he attributed to an administration that, in his assessment, squandered legitimacy, alienated allies, pursued regime change without adequate preparation, and ultimately found itself facing a disastrous situation without good alternatives.
Put simply: Trump may have backed himself into a corner.
He wanted maximum leverage. Instead, Iran may be betting that it can simply wait him out. Two more years of “winning,” Mr. President
