The Streisand Effect & Santa

This question reflects that a lot of people don’t know what the Streisand Effect is.

The Streisand Effect comes from an incident that involved, shocker, Barbara Streisand, aka Babs.
In 2003, a photographer, photographing Malibu from the waterfront, took a picture that included Barbara Streisand’s palatial estate. She demanded the image be taken down, and, when she didn’t get her way, sued the photographer and the website hosting the picture for 50 MILLION dollars. She eventually lost, had to pay something like 180,000 in legal fees for the people she sued, and the picture stayed up
Thing is, her lawsuit put an absurd amount of attention on the picture. And where she lived. And everything to do with her residence in Malibu.
She had filed the suit claiming she was concerned with her privacy. But, in filling the absurd lawsuit, she had basically put a tremendous amount of attention on the very thing she claimed she wanted kept private.
Whoops.
That’s the Streisand Effect - an attempt to hide some information instead resulting in the greater, more widespread knowledge of that information.
Trump is threatening to sue the BBC because they took his speech and purposefully cut it in order to make it look bad.
He’s hoping to do precisely the opposite of what Streisand did - drawing MORE attention to his ACTUAL speech, because the way that it (like many of his speeches) has been cut up by the press was designed to dishonestly represent what he said. Indeed, many of the claims that have been made about Trump saying this or that absurd thing fall apart under actually scrutiny.

Not So Christian After All...
The light turned yellow just as he was about to cross in his car, and as expected, he did the right thing: he stopped at the crosswalk, even though he could have run the red light by speeding through the intersection. The woman in the car behind him was furious. She honked at him for a long time and made loud negative comments, since she couldn't get through the intersection because of him… and to top it all off, she dropped her cell phone and spilled her makeup.

In the middle of her tantrum, she heard someone tapping on her side window. There, standing beside her, was a police officer looking at her very seriously. The officer ordered her to get out of her car with her hands up and took her to the police station where they searched her thoroughly, took her picture and fingerprints, and put her in a cell.
After a couple of hours, a police officer approached the cell and opened the door. The woman was escorted to the counter, where the officer who had arrested her was waiting with her belongings.
– “Ma’am, I’m very sorry for this mistake,” the police officer explained.
“I told you to get out while you were honking loudly, trying to run over the car in front, cursing, shouting profanities and saying obscene words.
As I watched her, I noticed that a rosary hangs from her rearview mirror, her car has a sticker on its bumper that says 'What would Jesus do in my place?', her license plate has a border that says 'I choose Life', another sticker that says 'Follow me to Church on Sunday' and, finally, the Christian emblem of the fish.
As expected, I assumed the car was stolen.”
This heartwarming story illustrates the importance of consistency between our beliefs and our actions. Being a Christian isn't just about going to church on Sundays or reading the Bible occasionally, because Christianity is a way of life: the way of life of Jesus. So the next time you're driving, shopping at the supermarket, or serving a customer, remember that the world is watching you and expects to see Jesus in you.

In the New Year - what you decide to do and what you actually do,- are often light years apart and is all down to you. Now : - You can become a Prince Amongst Men - or you can become an asshole. It is all up to you.
MOTHER WHO RUINS CHRISTMAS FOR HER 4 YEAR OLD.
When a Mother tells her 4 year old child that Santa does not exist as she wants her child to grow through thruth and not make believe - this coming from a Mother who is a Born Again Christian who believes in a mythical invisible figure that lives in heaven above - is somewhat hypocritical. I wonder if she sees how

double sided she is being. I wonder if she realized the fantasy she is claiming to be truth with no more proof than there is for a Tooth Fairy - whereas there is a lot of evidence to prove a Santa figure is based on real people, as far as we know:- whereas the Jesus figure is based on a collection of writings about a collection of people who raised the dead, walked on water and did what appeared to be miracles. Jesus was not the first and his story is based on numerous accounts from ancient times. As for God, I do believe in a SPIRITUAL ESSENCE but as there is no imperical evidence one way or the other - if you actually want proof and not just blind faith, then you will have to wait until you take your very last breath. In the mean time, stop destroying a 4 year olds childhood and when he goes to school and tells the other boys and girls there is no Santa, how do you think that will go down at school with the other kids and parents ? Truth or no truth, what you have done is appalling and I am - actually - quite disgusted at a so called Christian for ruining a childs imagination and enjoyment of Christmas, which is of itself anothet blatant lie, as Jesus WAS NOT born on December 25th - as we all know - or any time near it. Evidence shows us that the Star of David was Halley's Comet and that is dated - going around every 76 years - and if a Jesus figure was born at that time, try adding 3 years and mid summer to the birth date.

Where do you go next, no such things as Unicorns or Fairies - No such thing as the Tooth Fairy or Peter Pan. Where do you draw the line and where do you stop ruining a childs imagination. No Easter Bunny. The Wizard of Oz is not real - The Sound of Music, Maria in real life was hated by the nuns and was a really hard nosed women who fell in love with the kids and NOT the Baron - There was no Miracle on 42nd Street ? Reindeer do not fly and any and every Fairy Tale is a lie ( ??? - actually based on Non Christian truths hidden from the church in fairytale stories ) or that the 3 Bears were wild animals and the Wuitch Doctor was actually a women who the church brutally butchered to shut her up ... and as for Dorothy - the whole thing with the Wizard was all a dream while she was unconscious from banging her head - and Toto, her dog, kept humping her leg and had to be spayed..... Was the Sleeping Beauty really an ugly old hag and the Evil Witch was just a misunderstood women suffering with the menapause ?
IS THIS THE TRUTH YOU WANT A 4 YEAR OLD TO LEARM ?
IS THAT WHAT A RELIGIOUS PERSON SAYS AND DOES ?
Many things in a childs life will destroy their innocence. A parent does not need start with Sants Clause to a 4 year old. NOW - Who is the abuser here.
Do you agree with telling a 4 year old the truth about Santa ? Did you, with your kids ?
The magical, flying, gift-giving Santa Claus isn't a literal person, but a beloved figure representing generosity, inspired by the historical St. Nicholas; the idea of "Santa" shifts from a real being to the spirit of giving, often transitioning as kids grow, with parents sharing the truth by explaining Santa as a symbol of kindness and family love, not a jolly man in a red suit.
The Reality Behind the Myth; Historical Roots:

The legend stems from St. Nicholas, a real 4th-century Greek bishop known for secret gift-giving, especially to the poor.
Symbolism:
Santa Claus embodies the joy of giving without expecting thanks, a concept parents embody through their own acts of kindness and gift-giving.
Cultural Figure:
The modern image (red suit, reindeer) was shaped by stories, poems (like "A Visit from St. Nicholas"), and ads (like Coca-Cola's), making Santa a fun, fictional character like the Easter Bunny or Tooth Fairy.
How Parents Explain It "The Spirit of Santa":
Many parents explain that Santa is the spirit of giving, and by the time kids learn the truth, they're ready to become "Santa" themselves, continuing the tradition of generosity.
"Santa is a Costume":
Some say the Santa in stores is a person in costume, connecting back to the real St. Nicholas and the idea of kindness.
"When You Stop Believing, He Stops Coming":
This phrase can gently signal the transition, letting children guide the conversation as they grow curious.
Why People Say "There's No Santa" Revealing the Secret:
Sometimes, it's a pastor or individual telling children, often to focus on the religious meaning of Christmas or to be direct.
Discovering the Truth:
Kids often figure it out themselves through clues like handwriting, parental involvement, or seeing Santa costumes, leading to a "discovery" moment.
Ultimately, acknowledging "there's no Santa" is often the first step in a child's journey to understanding the deeper meaning of Christmas and the real-life generosity it celebrates. ( Bollocks: When this happens - A child realises that their parents have lied to them all their lives and this is a good ( and bad ) thing as it sets them up to the reality that not everything is at it seems. Parets lie. Parents mislead, Parents protect and Parents make mistakes. Telling a 4 year old Santa does not exist, in my view, is ruining their childhood which is so short and sweet and - why would you want to do that ? Is that good parenting and being a good Christian ? I think not.
