UKRAINE 3 YEARS ON

Today is the third anniversary of the escalation of the war between Ukraine and Russia, and the situation is more devastating than ever. The relentless bombing has shattered towns and cities, leaving destruction and trauma that will last for generations.

At least 12,000 civilians have been killed, and over 27,000 injured. These are innocent men, women and children who were caught up in the fighting, when all they sought was peace. And nearly 29% of Ukraine has been contaminated with deadly explosives.

I recently spoke with Gary, our bomb disposal expert, and I was shocked to hear how much of the explosive ordnance still lies in the streets: “Ukraine is now one of the most contaminated countries in the world. The scale of this tragedy is terrifying.”

DONATE TO HELP - HERE

This invisible threat keeps people trapped in a constant state of fear, as explosive weapons continue to injure and kill. Many have lost limbs, suffered burns, or are paralysed by trauma.

Gary says "Civilians, and especially children, are the most impacted by this conflict. Our teams are witnessing many traumatic amputations and burns from explosive ordnance. Nowhere in Ukraine is safe.”

But, amidst all the chaos and desperation, our teams have been on the ground, working tirelessly to bring all the relief they possibly can.

DONATE TO HELP - HERE

For the past 3 years, we have been providing rehabilitation to those who have been injured, offering assistive devices and psychological support to help them rebuild their lives. Without this help, many would be left to suffer in silence, unable to move, work, or heal.

So far, we’ve delivered nearly 15,000 rehabilitation sessions, distributed more than 5,000 assistive devices, like wheelchairs and crutches, and trained thousands of workers in rehabilitation to ensure long-term care for those in need.

We are there every single day, and we won’t stop. But there are still thousands of people depending on us for help, and we need your help to reach as many as possible.

John, will you help us provide that life-changing support today?

Thank you,

Animals in Ukraine Are Suffering – Send Help!

Left behind on the frontlines of the war in Ukraine, Andriy screamed as the ground shook and drones screeched overhead. Deafening explosions sent the tiny cat dashing through the rubble, desperate for a hiding place.

As relentless attacks destroyed Andriy’s village, the injured cat grew weak and sick. Tears of blood fell from his eyes while he hid in the ruins, listening for the thunderous crack of gunfire. Scarcely daring to move, he cried softly – hoping someone would come for him.

Rescue teams supported by PETA’s Global Compassion Fund have been on the ground in Ukraine since just days after the invasion began three years ago today. Right now, they’re caring for more than 2,000 rescued animals – from dogs and cats to horses and pigs – and rescuing an average of 130 animals each day.

Rescuers are finding cats too sick to stand, dogs aching with hunger, and others so badly traumatised by all they’ve been through that they cry out at the slightest touch. Teams are dodging bombs while scouring the streets for survivors – listening for the whimpers of dogs and cats hiding in the basements of burned-down houses or huddled in smoldering rubble.

John Bellamy Comments

JUST IMAGINE: On a normal Monday morning you are getting up to go to work and on the TV news it announces your cuntry has been invaded and bombs start falling around your town.

You rush out into the streets and see dead bodies laying around and utter destruction.

The TV advises you leave town and head for the hills - where the military claim they can protect the civilians.

What do you quickly grab - Your wallet and credit cards - and cash - a change of clothes, your passport and ID, medication and - shit you almost forgot - - the dog and food for her... and in your panic you gather your things and run to meet the transport that the military have provided.

As the bus drives out of town, the bus ahead of you is hit by a direct missile and there is pandamonian as your bus drives quickly past and you see dead women and children blown to pieces amongst the carnage of twisted metal and flames - Bodies blown to bits everywhere, burning.

Your bus drives on and you see your once beautiful town in shambles of destroyed buildings, burned out cars and busses and more bodies laying in the streets. All civilians.

No use calling the police or ambulance as everyone is either fighting or running.

Another explosion right near your bus shatters half the busses windows and people scream as the glass severely injures some - horrendous ijuries and the blood... OMG the blood.

This Mondy morning the last thing you thought you were going to be doing is running for your life... No idea where your family are, friends, workmates - as they are all running for their lives and trying to escape the carnage.

These are ordinay people such as you and I - with jobs and homes and mortgages and friends - and then their world is turned upside down. Bloody and violent. Murderous and cruel. Insanity and the Devil seems in charge. Everything you considered good and beautiful has been blown to smitherenes.

You cannot unsee the horrors you have witnessed just this first morning and these memories are burned into your consciousness forever. Torturing your sleep - when you dare sleep - with nightmares.

JUST IMAGINE.

This is day one.

Now think about this as you go and make yourself a cuppa, before you sit back and relax with the TV and before you enjoy a peaceful nights sleep. Others, muck like yourself, are going through hell and you can offer some light at the end of a very long tunnel.
