What sort of things horrify Europeans about U.S. culture?

‘Horrify’ is a strong word but in no particular order is a short list of things many Europeans dislike or don’t understand about America.

This is not hatred towards the US, as I believe the vast majority of Europeans do have respect for the country (as do I) but you haven’t asked for a list of positives although that respect has been drastically reduced because of the manner in which the USA voted for a Dictator, allows a destruction of global economy and how most nations now do NOT respect the USA at all.

Trump.

Obesity.

Crime.

Guns/ murders/ mass shootings, especially in schools.

Overbearing Arrogance.

Ignorance - A severe lack of good education.

Overbearing, fanatical religion. It isn't really religion, it's show biz.

Allowing religion to have a say in politics and public life.

Denying your own people healthcare based on wealth!

Confusing ‘culture’ with entertainment.

Afraid of LGBT and anyone and anything a little different to your ' normal' Christian narrative, which is UnChristian, Un Enlightened and UnEducated.

Thinking celebrities' opinions on politics, science and education are some how more valid than the experts'.

Over the top pride in your country not normally seen outside a totalitarian dictatorship.

Conspiracy theories such as flat earth, vaccine & autism and aliens are virtually all from the US as well as how we never landed on the moon and the whole thing was fake.

Poverty. Appalling poverty to millions of Americans and all so the mega rich do not have to pay tax.

Poor public transport AND poor transport infrastructure!

Processed food and foods the EU will not allow because of toxins and bad food protection limits.

Racism. Everywhere. Racism. America is the most racist country while claiming otherwise.

The ’pro-life’ movement takes away womens choice over their own bodies.

The vast number of Americans with a complete lack of a ‘world view’ - they think Europe is a country and us Brits speak American.

The concept of ‘Fake news’. In Europe it’s called lying.

Fox News.

Endemic sexual harassment.

Poor taste in fashion.

A love of inefficient, environmently unfriendly cars.

Climate change denial.

Crappy junk food.

The concept of ‘cultural appropriation’ from a country where almost all of the ‘culture’ is from other countries.

…and finally I have to say Trump again.

If you wanted to sum up everything that’s wrong with America in one thing it’s the fact that a man like Trump could stand for election and get voted in and this is the main reason the world does not trust America as if you can vote for a man like Trump - TWICE - and even if a new Presdent reversed all the globally damaging things Trump has done, we cannot trust America to vote another Trump in and do it all again.

It might not sound like it but I actually really like America and most of the Americans I’ve met on my multiple visits over the past forty years. However, it’s not as perfect as many Americans are led to believe and a great deal of what many Americans believe about their history is complete and absolute bollocks. Lies. Misinterpretations of reality to suit their own narrative. They truly believe that they are the Number One nation on the planet, the police force of the world and that what they say - goes - globally, and if someone stands against, they are vilified and destroyed - these days by Trump screaming and adding massive tariffs, then Trump will damn and destroy its leaders with bad mouthing them and telling lies about them and No leader, no government official, no Miniser or Senator should EVER act in such a LOW LIFE, VULGAR AND PETULANT MANNER as Trump and his minions behave.

What falsehoods Americans believe as the truth.

Based on recent polls, historical analysis, and social commentary, Americans often believe several widespread misconceptions. These falsehoods range from historical myths to political misunderstandings and cultural stereotypes.

Historical and Cultural Misconceptions

George Washington’s Wooden Teeth: It is a common myth that George Washington had wooden teeth; in reality, his dentures were made of materials like gold, ivory, lead, and even human teeth.

"You Can Be Anything You Want to Be": A pervasive cultural belief in American individualism that implies unlimited upward mobility, often disregarding systemic barriers.

A man named Mudd killed Abraham Lincoln. He did not. Doctor Mudd had nothing to do with it but was jailed for helping one of the assasins with a broken leg not knowing anything about an assination and yet was jailed for the rest of his life and his name - MUDD being used to mean something low down.

The "Karen" Tourist Stereotype: Many Americans believe they are universally perceived as loud or obnoxious tourists abroad, though this stereotype is often amplified in media. Mind you, it can be obvious who the American abroad is.

Political and Social Falsehoods

An "Open" Southern Border: Despite claims from some politicians and media, the U.S. southern border is not, in fact"open".

Immigrant Crime Rates:

A significant number of Americans falsely believe that immigrants are more likely to commit crimes or be incarcerated than U.S.-born citizens. Studies actually show that U.S.-born citizens are over two times more likely to be arrested for violent crimes, 2.5 times more likely for drug crimes, and four times more likely for property crimes.

Immigrants and Public Assistance:

There is a widespread, false belief that illegal immigrants use public assistance benefits more than the native-born population.

Foreign Countries Pay Tariffs:

It is a commonly repeated falsehood that foreign nations pay U.S. tariffs, when in reality, they are primarily paid by American consumers and businesses.

Common Misconceptions About Other Countries

British Teeth are Subpar: Many Americans believe in a stereotype that people in the UK have bad teeth. While teeth whitening is less common in the UK than in the US, British dental care is not universally poor.

Americans believe they have the best health care on the planet. Untrue. They are WAY down the list - behind most of Europe, Cuba and the UK. If you have the money it is good but for the vast majority who rely in expensive insurance plans that often are a bad investment, millions go without healthcare.

All UK Residents Drink Tea:

A stereotype that oversimplifies British culture, ignoring a diverse, modern society.

Self-Perpetuated Misconceptions

"If You're Not Busy, You're Lazy": An ingrained belief in American culture that equates constant activity and work with productivity and worth, often leading to high rates of stress.

"Everything is Disgusting": Many Americans believe in the inferiority of foreign food or culture, often based on limited, tourist-level experience -

But tell me, what is culturally American ??? - NOT A LOT as their culture is a mix made up of migrants from all over the world so their food, their religions, their style and everything is just a mash up from elsewhere.

Americans truly believe that the Brits are speaking American and that the British accent has nothing to do with Britain and MANY believe the USA to be the oldest country on the planet, even though we all know they migrated from much older countrie so --- WTF ?

The expression 'I'm an American ' is suppose to intimidate but all it does is make people laugh at its stupidity in assuming we give a rats ass.

You make, and take, from the news that which you wish to see and hear. You observe what you want and comment of things that affect you personally. If you don't like something, do not read it and move on but do not shy away from what IS going on in the world of which - you are a part. World news is so easy to find these days and differing opinions not hard to find. Having an opinion is vital and being a ' don't care' person helps no one. So open your mind - open your heart - open your awareness and ALWAYS be open to new ideas.
