JB COMMENTS: This is not the first time I have received e mails about airbnb and how dissappointed they were with - well - everything, and I thought it about time to share one with you received earliere this week.

Dear John: I recently stayed in an airbnb and it was awful. Thought you'd like to know.
It was advertised as luxury and it was not.
No Health & Safety Cerificates - Not even a fire detection system.
No Fire Doors . No fire extinguisher.
No lock on my bedroom door.
No Food Hygiene Certificate.
No Performing Arts Music Licence.
No Business TV licence.
No Business Insurance should I need to make a claim.
No Business garbage collection.
And I am sure she didn't pay Business Council Tax or declare her home as a money earning business.
AND SHE CHARGED MORE THAN HOTELS IN THE VICINITY AND OFFERED NOTHING IN PROTECTION AS LISTED ABOVE.
This was in Edinburugh, in an apartment on the 4th floor and no Emergency Exit - nothing to tell me where and what to do in an emergency.
The owner lived there and rented out a couple of rooms on airbnb and was raking it is while offering nothing - NOTHING - that all the hotels have to spend money on ( see list above ) and it was just one big fat rip off. She also insisted I pay cash for the extra night - so it is cash in hand and not taxed.
I must point out that she also smoked and the whole place stunk of stale smoke.
I sat chatting to the owner over breakfast on the last day and I asked about these things and she got so defensive and when I pointed out she was more expensive that hotels that do have all the legal requirements listed, she flew into a rage and almost had a fit. I reminded her that I had the right to complain to airbnb about her and it calmed her down and was excessively nice after that - and I did make a complaint and she was taken off the list at airbnb, largely because of the smoking and the smell of it everywhere.
John. I have to ask, how come so many people get away with this ? It puts people at risk and many hotel suffer and close while these individuals earn a fortune and put nothing back into the system.
Even the breakfast she offered was basically one cereal and toast and at £95 a night - was not cheap.
I would never stay at an airbnb establishment again and I now completely appreciate how hard and how expensive it is for you to run your Hamilton Hall and I now truly value how hard you work to keep the place as nice and with all the legal requirements.
I shall certainly visit Hamilton Hall again but will never use airbnb again.

You make, and take, from the news that which you wish to see and hear. You observe what you want and comment of things that affect you personally. If you don't like something, do not read it and move on but do not shy away from what IS going on in the world of which - you are a part. World news is so easy to find these days and differing opinions not hard to find. Having an opinion is vital and being a ' don't care' person helps no one. So open your mind - open your heart - open your awareness and ALWAYS be open to new ideas.
