Euroviews. Attack on Berlin Pride: political Islam threatens open society
The attack on Berlin's Christopher Street Day (CSD), allegedly by an Islamist, is an assault on free Western society, writes CDU member Rene Powilleit in a Euronews op-ed. He leads Berlin's 'Lesbians and Gays in the Union'.

What began as a day of joy, freedom and love in the heart of the German capital turned into an unimaginable tragedy in the evening. Hundreds of thousands were celebrating Berlin's Christopher Street Day until a suspected Islamist attack using a delivery vehicle cut a trail of destruction through the Tiergarten park. One woman lost her life, and many others were injured, some of them seriously.
Our thoughts are with Berlin's LGBT+ community & everyone affected by the terrorist attack on Berlin Pride. It is a reminder that Islamism remains a serious threat to LGBT+ people, women, Jews, liberal Muslims, non-believers & those who reject religious authoritarianism.
Islamism is a political-religious ideology that seeks to impose its beliefs through intimidation & violence. It must be confronted wherever it appears, while rejecting prejudice against Muslims - the overwhelming majority of whom oppose terrorism. The answer to this attack is not division or repression. Democracies must defend the right to protest, speak freely & live openly, while ensuring that the tiny minority who seek to destroy these freedoms are held to account. John Comments : This is the dumbest thing I have read in a long time. This is also happening all over the place. TAKE A CREDIT CARD BOOKING or if just walk-ins - TAKE A CREDIT CARD STRAIGHT AWAY OR - NO SERVICE . Simple as that. And WHY OH WHY ARE THESE VENUES SO SLOW ON THE UP TAKE TO PROTECT THEMSELVES. NO SYMPATHY AT ALL.
In over 40,000 credit card payments when I was an escort, I had 3 who had no money at the end - otherwise I always took - after learning - credit card on ALL suspicious bookings and I was NEVER DONE. Tens of thousands of cards used, tens of thousands of customers - hundreds of thousands of £ and all I ever lost was 3 clients who didn't pay totalling £120 - so not worth worrying about in the bigger scheme of things - and these restaurants - CLEARLY - DON'T HAVE A CLUE - and need to wise up, grow up, be less trusting and put things in place to protect themselves. It aint hard... It's actually common sense and these restaurants need a serious re evaluation of how they manage their venues.
You make, and take, from the news that which you wish to see and hear. You observe what you want and comment of things that affect you personally. If you don't like something, do not read it and move on but do not shy away from what IS going on in the world of which - you are a part. World news is so easy to find these days and differing opinions not hard to find. Having an opinion is vital and being a ' don't care' person helps no one. So open your mind - open your heart - open your awareness and ALWAYS be open to new ideas.
