OMG, WTF? What is going on with Trump? During a White House event honoring a teenage lifeguard who rescued a 10-year-old boy from drowning, Trump reportedly told the child that he probably wouldn’t have saved him.
The event was supposed to be a feel-good moment. Trump welcomed 16-year-old lifeguard who had risked himself to save 10-year-old Nathaniel Rai, recognizing the teenager for his bravery.
Then Trump made the moment deeply uncomfortable.
“I don’t know if I’d do it,” Trump said. “I wouldn’t, probably. You’re lucky I wasn’t on the service that day.”
What an extraordinary thing for a president to say to a child who had nearly drowned.
Instead of simply praising the young hero and celebrating the fact that Nathaniel survived, Trump turned the attention toward himself and joked that he probably would not have intervened.
Imagine hearing that from the President of the United States.
The teenager who actually stepped up and helped someone in danger demonstrated courage, compassion, and a willingness to put another person’s safety ahead of his own. That is the kind of behavior worth celebrating.
Trump’s comment, meanwhile, was jarring enough to overshadow what should have been a genuinely inspiring White House ceremony.
And somehow, this moment will likely disappear beneath the next controversy. Trump has repeatedly managed to dominate the news cycle with one outrageous statement after another, making it increasingly difficult for any single incident to receive sustained attention.
That should not mean we stop paying attention.
Leadership is supposed to be about setting an example, especially for children. Courage, compassion, and helping someone in danger should never be treated as punchlines.
The real hero in that room was the 16-year-old who actually did the right thing when someone needed help.
We should remember that.

You make, and take, from the news that which you wish to see and hear. You observe what you want and comment of things that affect you personally. If you don't like something, do not read it and move on but do not shy away from what IS going on in the world of which - you are a part. World news is so easy to find these days and differing opinions not hard to find. Having an opinion is vital and being a ' don't care' person helps no one. So open your mind - open your heart - open your awareness and ALWAYS be open to new ideas.
