Help a dog at Christmas ( and I don't mean your X )

By John Bellamy

Being a dog and cat owner for most of my adult life, I am always astounded how people ' give up' on a pet because it is more work than they thought. A dog is not just for Christmas and yet so many are sent to Rescue Centres after the New Year - and the same after Lockdown - and these poor animals are confused and frightened.

I would dearly love a second dog but it really would be too much within the hotel so I stick with just the one, and if I was to adopt another dog, I would choose an older one, maybe where its owners had died - as sadly, so many older dogs are over looked at Rescue Centres as people do not want the vet bills and ultimate death of a pet they may have grown close to, but - I can cope with death and as sad as it is, it will not destroy me, and if I can add a few years of happiness to an animals life, especially into older age, then that's what I would / could offer.

Instead of adopting and homing another dog, I do what I can, and donate monies towards their costs and to help them with their work, be it here in the UK or through any of the wonderful sites on YouTube.

I donated £50 this week and because of donations like this, dogs like Lola Lou have found comfort, safety and love when they needed it most. Donations mean abandoned dogs no longer have to face the cold and loneliness alone, they’re being welcomed into these centres and caring foster homes, where they can finally begin to heal. A donation means everything to the dogs who’ve lost their happy place.  JB.

This Christmas, you’ve turned stories of abandonment into ones of warmth and care.

From a frightened little dog left behind in a dark and empty flat to a much-loved companion enjoying walkies, cuddles and cosy naps, Lola Lou’s transformation is only possible because of your kindness. You’ve given her back the trust, comfort and joy she thought she’d lost forever. Thanks to you, Lola Lou knows what it feels like to be safe and truly loved. As more dogs arrive in our care over the festive season, your compassion ensures they too will be safe, warm and cared for while they wait for their forever homes, a place where they can finally find the love and security every dog deserves.

Lola Lou now has the chance to start a new chapter filled with hope and happiness while she waits for her forever home from the safety of her foster home. Thank you for making a real difference and helping create brighter, safer futures for dogs who need it most.

With paws and love,
