Men Convicted of Homosexual Offences
Held in Portland Prison, 1869
Thanks to David for this

By the 1850s, felons were no longer transported to Australia, but were sentenced to penal servitude, i.e. imprisonment with hard labour, in newly established convict prisons built to hold male offenders. Earlier in the nineteenth century, Dartmoor Prison had been used to house prisoners of war, but it had been closed for a long period, until it was reopened in 1851 for civilian convicts. Other prisons opened in the 1850s include Chatham Prison, built as an extension to Chatham Dockyard.

The Newport Navy Sex Scandal (1919–1921)

When the Navy Accidentally Documented America’s NEWS w/e 22nd March 2026Hidden Gay World
History has a funny habit of doing the opposite of what people intend.
In 1919, the United States Navy set out to eliminate homosexuality from its ranks. Officers believed that a handful of sailors stationed in Newport, Rhode Island were secretly having sex with other men. To the Navy, this was not just immoral. It was a threat to discipline and order. Something had to be done.
So they launched an investigation
Historic Florida Nudist Colony Seeks New Owner After 67 Years

A longtime nudist property in Florida is back in the headlines as its owners attempt to sell the Florida Naturist Park, a community with nearly seven decades of colorful, and sometimes controversial, history.
Founded in 1959 by carpenter Thomas Ward Gulvin, the camp sat on more than 200 acres of wooded land about an hour northwest of Tampa. At its peak, hundreds of visitors and residents were drawn to the park’s anything-goes atmosphere. Unlike many other nudist resorts of the era, the Florida Naturist Park had few rules. Guests could sunbathe, play volleyball, and socialize freely without the typical restrictions on single men or swinging that were common elsewhere.
Cornwall locals rage about second homes - until they sell their shed for £100k:
Story by Rebecca Tidy

I was idly browsing Rightmove last weekend – a habit I suspect I share with half the country – when one listing stopped me in my tracks. The sense of recognition came instantly. I'd seen this shed before, on Cornwall with Simon Reeve, a BBC Two documentary exploring poverty and inequality in the county, where it was presented as a stark emblem of the local housing crisis.
SO:-Locals sell their homes and even their garden sheds for an absolute fortune to ' out of towners' who want this as a second home, and then locals complain house prices have gone up and there is nowhere to live, AND WHO STARTED THE PRICE HIKE ON LOCAL PROPERTIES - THE GREEDY LOCALS - thinking they were screwing the 'out of towners' when all they have done is muck it up for themselves. No use complaining about the prices and a lack of housing when you caused and allowed it to happen. You took the money and now complain you cannot afford to buy in your own town. You cannot have your cake - and eat it.

Celebrities who lost their fortunes and died broke

Being a celebrity can be quite costly. Despite their incredibly high incomes, A-listers tend to live expensive lives. Multiple homes, private travel, and extravagant vacations make up the more luxurious side of their financial burden. However, their public personas mean that they and their families require high levels of security wherever they go, which doesn't come cheap. Factor in financial abuse by dodgy managers, poor investment choices, and drug addictions, and their lifestyles can lead to heavy debt.
If you've done more than 10 of these things, you're officially old
Doing even a handful of these unfortunately officially qualifies you for ‘old’ status.

You make, and take, from the news that which you wish to see and hear. You observe what you want and comment of things that affect you personally. If you don't like something, do not read it and move on but do not shy away from what IS going on in the world of which - you are a part.
