Thanks for you editorial and promo for the Trevor Project.
I have been a F2M for over 15 years and the biggest bigotry I ever got was from within the gay community. Goodness knows why we assume another minority group will be a little more understand of us, is beyond me. They often do not.
I was a married man with children but always knew I was different. In my 30’s the process began and I have always had a very supportive and understanding wife. She has been my rock. My children call me Mom now and it was a giggle to start with and then just became the nom.
Of course, being a straight men – now a women, meant I joined a community I knew very little about and was faced for the first time with homophobia as others saw me as a lesbian, which for all and purposes – I had become.
I was a man who desired women. Just because I changed my physical appearance and changed its sex – does not mean I suddenly start fancying men. I am not gay in the man fancies man thing. So I am a lesbian.
I was a straight man – those desires do not change because I now have a vagina. So – I found it hard when entering the gay world because the worst bigotry and ignorant arguments came from a few gay men.
Just like in any community you will find those scared of something they do not understand and will fight against out of ignorance and fear. Now – this fear is their own and if only they would grow up and own it, everyone would benefit but sadly, too much ignorance abounds and here in the USA with our delightful Trump so against transsexuals - the fight is a far cry from being over where acceptance comes in.
I now can dissapear within the world as I am not obvious at all since learning how to do makeup etc. and for those still obvious, they face bigotry in the US wherever they are.
So thanks for the link. It helps a lot more than you realize.
