While virtually every living former President has issued a statement blasting Russia's Vladimir Putin for the full-scale invasion of Ukraine he authorized earlier this week, former President Donald Trump leapt to praise the authoritarian leader.

Just days after calling Putin's strategy "genius" on a far-right radio show, Trump once again praised Putin as "smart" to a ballroom full of Mar-a-Lago guests. The remarks happened as the first rumblings of the invasion unfolded on Wednesday night.

As you know, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion against Ukraine last night. The ongoing attack—mounted by air, land, and sea—has forced Ukrainians from their homes and threatens to uproot peace in Europe and the world. There is, however, reason to hope. NATO remains united in launching unprecedented sanctions that have already begun to sink Putin's economy. Ukrainian fighters continue to hold their own against a much larger militia. Russian citizens, despite the risk of government retribution, are marching in the streets of St. Petersburg and other cities, shouting no to war.
